French born Marion Cotillard has steadily made a name for herself in both foreign language and Hollywood blockbuster films. To celebrate the release of her latest film Contagion, in cinemas October 21st we take a look at Marion Cotillard’s top five films.
Contagion – 2011
Contagion follows the rapid progress of a lethal airborne virus that kills within days. As the fast-moving epidemic grows, the worldwide medical community races to find a cure and control the panic that spreads faster than the virus itself. At the same time, ordinary people struggle to survive in a society coming apart. The film brings together a stellar international ensemble cast, including Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet.
Midnight in Paris – 2011
A romantic comedy about a family staying in the French capital for business. The party includes a young engaged couple forced to confront the illusion that a life different from their own could be better.
Midnight in Paris is Woody Allen’s valentine to the City of Light, which he considers equal to New York as the great city of the world. Allen is back to top form and Cotillard looks gorgeous as the 1920s poster girl for the film.
Inception – 2010
In her biggest Hollywood film to date, Cotillard stars alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Christopher Nolan’s Inception. In the four times Academy Award winning film viewers are thrust into a world where technology exists to enter the human mind through dream invasion. Epic action adventure which also stars Ellen Page, Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
La Vie En Rose – 2007
Cotillard’s performance as Little Sparrow singer Edith Piaf earned her a Best Actress Academy Award and recognition amongst the most stern of critics. The film takes an un-chronological look at the singers life from her childhood years living with her alcoholic mother, circus performer father and her madam grandmother to her time as a twenty year old street singer. Crippled by the heartache of fame and losing her only child, alcohol quickly became her best friend in this touching tale.
Love Me If You Dare – 2003
A weepy romance par excellence, this film wasn’t very highly rated by critics at the time. But bold direction for Yann Samuell, a bonkers central concept, and a stunning performance from Cotillard herself ensure that this remains a brilliant viewing experience. And the end gets us every time.
